Text Box: “I felt that, if children knew about the outdoors, they would love it, and if they loved it and cared about it, they would conserve it.”

Established in 1982, the Commission is comprised of educators, as well as representatives from the private sector and government. The members of this Commission recognize the environmental changes taking place in our world and the urgent need for public awareness and environmental education in our school curriculum.
As such the Environmental Education Commission is dedicated to the supervision and operation of the Environmental Education Centre where anyone can enjoy the tranquility of the wilderness. Our primary focus is the environmental education of Newfoundland children. Each year nearly two thousand students from the Eastern School Board participate in programs designed to develop environmental awareness and enhance personal and social responsibilities for environmental action. Groups from other organizations also use the Centre for environmentally responsible activities. The Commission is committed to ensuring the continued development and management of the Environmental Education Centre and the natural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Recently the Friends of the Brother Brennan Centre was formed to promote and protect the goals of the centre.
