Rounded Rectangle: Orienteering is a life-long skill that we use every day, whether to find a store in the mall with the floor plan or finding our way in a new city with a street map. Orienteering involves two basic skills; map reading and using compass and map together to take and follow bearings.
To safely explore our beautiful countryside and woodlands orienteering is an essential skill that can be mastered even at a young age.
Orienteering as a sport, is suitable for all ages and makes a great family activity. The sport can be competitive where the runner attempts to be the fasted to complete the course. Alternatively, one can simply be proud that all flags have been successfully located.
The links on this page provide some basic information on orienteering, local clubs, compass use, and mapping. The map above is of the Environmental Education Centre and was made using OCAD6, free cartography software which would be suitable for classroom activities.
Rounded Rectangle: The Brother Brennan Centre was proud to host the 2008 Provincial Orienteering Championships, the weather was superb and there was about 150 participants.
