Rounded Rectangle: Brother Brennan Environmental Education Centre Trip
Once again this year our Grade 6 - 9 students at Lakecrest have been given the wonderful opportunity to attend an overnight camp at the Brother Brennan Centre from Thursday, September 25 to Friday, September 26th. The children have the opportunity to experience Newfoundland's Boreal Forest at first hand and to go through a wonderful bonding and confidence building experience.

The children will undergo a split curriculum, with the Grade Eights and Nines focusing on wilderness survival skills, orienteering and in depth study of the plant and marine life around the centre. The Grade Sixes and Sevens meanwhile will study the ecology of the forest and the plant and animal life within it. This is a fantastic experience for the children bringing their science lessons to life and helping to shape and inform attitudes that will last a lifetime. On top of all of the learning will be an opportunity to partake in campfires, night hikes and stargazing all under the watchful eye of the excellent staff at the Brother Brennan Centre.

We thank our teachers for providing this wonderful learning opportunity for our students.
Rounded Rectangle: GRADE SIX STUDENTS VISIT
THE BROTHER BRENNAN ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE
Have you ever recycled paper to make more paper? Have you spent time in a quiet spot with paper, pencil, water colours and brush? How about, hugging a tree, visiting a fairy stump, search for signs of animal life?
These are among the many and varied activities that our grade 6 students experienced at the Brother Brennan Environmental Centre in October.
Located on the Deer Park loop on Salmonier Line, the Brother Brennan Environmental Centre offers programs for grade six and eight students. In grade six, outcomes associated with the science, health and physical education are explored. What a great way to learn!
Our grade six classes spent two days and one night at the centre. Everyone had a superb time. Best of all, they learned! Thanks to the teachers and parent sponsors who helped make this trip in to the Newfoundland wilderness a great success!
